Today we participated in a school-wide Me to We initiative called "We are Silent." As we were silent for the morning, we realized the power that our voices have and how the voices of so many children around the world are not heard. We discussed the rights every child should have, and how many children around the world do not have access to education because they are forced to work or because they are girls. We then did a silent writing activity to compare our lives to a child labourer in Cambodia and to write a letter to the 7-year-old girl's boss to emphasize the girl's rights to education and a bright future.
Students took the activity very seriously. and discovered how frustrating it can be to not have your voice heard and appreciated the freedoms and luxuries we do have here in Canada.
