We've been studying the positive and negative impact that human activity can have on animals, plants, and local habitats. We decided that while we may not be able to completely stop the problem, we can contribute to finding a solution by creating awareness. Keep an eye out for these powerful posters around the school and community!
As we link our Habitats science unit with music, we are discovering rhythms and patterns found in nature.
As a class, we worked together to re-create a rainstorm with rhythms. Students had to carefully follow the leader and concentrate to transition between rhythms. Listen to the result at the link below! Grade 4 Rainstorm audio file In Health, we have been discussing the importance of regular physical exercise and how there are many different ways you can exercise.
Here are some HILARIOUS informercials using a persuasive, expressive tone to convince YOU to exercise! The password is our English & Math teacher's last name. https://vimeo.com/99329299 In drama, we have been exploring how tone of voice, expression, and body language make a big impact on the audience. We can even use these drama techniques to convince an audience that something completely ordinary is special and worth buying!
Check out these fun persuasive drama informercials! https://vimeo.com/99328229 During the first week of school, we explored a key part of critical thinking - using clues in a text to help you answer a question or solve a problem. To practice and get to know each other more, we wrote down clues about ourselves in French on question marks and took turns listening to the "evidence" to solve "qui suis-je?" Just like when we do research or read, sometimes we only needed 1 clue to figure it out, and sometimes we needed to keep reading to find more evidence! Hello students and families!
The first day of school was a big success. It was so nice to meet many of you quickly on the yard. Once again, I will be in for Brenda Quinn all year, so I am your child's homeroom teacher. We are class 4B in room 426. I will be teaching French, Social Studies, Science, Health, Physical Education, Drama, Dance, Music, and Visual Arts. Tara Lynch will be teaching English and Math. Across the OCDSB, junior French Immersion classes are switching to math in English. The picture above is of our classroom (prior to the students' arrival!). The tables allow for collaborative group work as we tackle critical thinking together. We worked on establishing the rules and routines in our classroom, as well as defining our own grade 4 community. I am so looking forward to getting to know the students better as well as their families throughout the year. It's going to be a fantastic year! ~ Mme. Shealyn Visser |
